Artist: Nancy Liang and Her Moving Urban and Suburbia Landscapes

I am so thrilled to introduce you something different today. A Sydney-based illustrator, Nancy Liang creates whimsical tales of urban landscapes, city streets and the often forgotten places of suburbia in looping GIF images. They are definitely compulsive viewing. According to her website, Liang represents her subject matters using paper cutouts in the form of a diorama. It is quite interesting to find out that there is either one figure or none in her illustrations for the viewers to engage and empathize with.

*Diorama: a model representing a scene with three-dimensional figures, either in miniature or as a large-scale museum exhibit.

Make sure to check out her website for more illustrations.

Aritst: Our Wild Abandon, Wherever Forever

The cost of housing has steadily increased all year, every year. The front pages of many newspapers are talking about this for so long now that it does not surprise us anymore. Like many of us, I wish to have one little house or an apartment where I can call home forever. Contrary to our wish, there is a B.C. photography duo did the exactly opposite. They sold everything that they owned to hit the road in a fixed up old trailer more than three years ago still on the road. Thankfully, they are documenting their journey on their website and Instagram so that we can learn "life is wild".

Gift Idea: Word Cloud / Wordle to show your love

Prints of portrait of a family or a pet, mosaics of memorable moments, and reproduction prints of classical paintings have always been in high demand when it comes to our gift products. In order to personalize a gift, we were often asked to include names, dates, and even lyrics of a couple's first dance song in the prints. Link to our Text-Art Image Effect

Another gift idea we would like to introduce to you that emphasizes the "text" and meaning of the text is word cloud design, AKA Wordle. We can generate creative, personalized Word Clouds from text or the list of words you provide. Word clouds give greater prominence to words that appear more frequently in the source text. We can tweak the clouds with different fonts, layouts, and color schemes. Place your online order using following form and later send the list of your words later by email. Meera Sethi: Listen to your aunties!

Listen to your aunties! Toronto artist Meera Sethi celebrates the wisdom and style of South Asian women

When it comes to navigating the nuances of an Indian-Canadian identity, Meera Sethi is 'Upping the Aunty.'

Toronto artist Meera Sethi's current exhibition at Daniels Spectrum, Upping the Aunty.

Fashion icons in North America are rarely over 40 and are almost never South Asian, but Toronto-based artist Meera Sethi is determined to challenge that. Her current exhibition at Toronto's Daniels SpectrumUpping the Aunty, explores the style, attitude and potential iconography of South Asian aunties — the older women whom Sethi has looked up to throughout her life. The term "aunty" in countries such as India, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Sri Lanka isn't just used for family members. It can be applied to family friends and even strangers. In my own Caribbean culture, I was taught to always refer to older women as "aunties" because it was considered disrespectful for children to call adults by their first name.

Seeing the impact her paintings have on women in particular has been a powerful affirmation for Sethi. "It's been amazing and so beautiful to see women from all walks, not only South Asian women, feel honoured and seen by the work," she says, smiling. "As women of colour we don't get that experience very often, especially as older women of colour. We might see ourselves represented, but not in a way that gives us strength."

I would say that Sethi's creates simple, yet inspiring representation of playful, yet professional and confident aunties from South Asia. The aunties are the best of the both worlds.

“A Movie Poster A Day” by Peter Majarich + VanGoYourself site

Sydney-based graphic designer Peter Majarich plans to release a new, re-designed movie poster for every day of 2016. With over 160 redesigns under his belt already, the posters are a neat mix of each film’s original content and Majarich’s personal, minimalist style. Check out more images below!

Article from www.booooooom.com

Recreating artworks (in any forms - literature to films) can be both motivating and inspiring. I continued to browse this idea only to learn about this interesting website!

VanGoYourself allows you to recreate a painting with your friends, which is then twinned with the original and shared on social media. It is perfect if you are tired of just looking at paintings, and like the idea of getting inside them instead? You can decide how ambitious you feel, then choose a painting that is ‘easy’ or a ‘challenge for a master’ to recreate. You can also select paintings using criteria such as ‘1 person’, ‘3 people’, ‘group,  ‘gory‘, ‘pets‘ or ‘romantic’ or even look for a museum you love. You can search the tags here.

Step 1: Choose: Pick your favourite painting to recreate from a selection of classics.
Step 2: Recreate:  Get ready then take or upload your own photo.
Step 3: Exhibit: Publish and share your masterpiece with the world.
